K&N filters on solex 40P11-4

Just had my solex's rebuild for my 69. I've been thinking of doing the K&N upgrade. Just curious what people thought of it?

K&N's are Ok but very noisy. They will not get you anymore HP (despite claims). Their ability to filter incoming crud is not as good as the stock paper elements. I ran K&N's on Webers with a Bursch exhaust: at 70 mph conversation in the cabin was limited to yelling. I went back to stock (Solexes, Air Filters, exhaust) and normal conversation levels are good at 70.

If you have the stock air filter cans, stay with 'em; the German engineers knew what they were doing then and it still applies today.

...just my 2¢
Peter

Out with the old; in with the new:

Peter,
There are easier ways to test the noise level of the different filters.

...well you know I like to pull the motor/transmission to change spark plugs, right? That evolution was Ol' Smoky coming out and the rebuilt (from two motors) going in just before the 2012 912 Rendezvous in Cambria. The rebuilt motor has over 50K miles on it now and Ol' Smoky is in the process of going back together:
