914 2.0 liter engine
My 912 is missing its engine and trans. Will a 914 2.0 liter engine and trans fit into a 912 engine bay?
I have a 1976 912E |

Yes but it will take some work. Go to this link. You will find several guys doing this conversion.

It mostly needs the tin and mount. They are basically the same engine.

Sounds like the OP already has a 912E.

The 914 transaxel will not work in a 912E. Longer wheel base. plus the 914 transaxel drive is reversed due to it is behind the engine instead of in front. However it can be made to work in a 912.

I just sent you a PM regarding a 912E engine I have posted for sale over on the 912BBS forums. Unfortunately I sold the matching tranny a few years ago. The one you need is often referred to as a "923 tranny" which are the first 3 digits of the part numbers for parts unique to the 912E. They have become hard to find partially because they are also popular with the 911 guys who like to use their lower ratio differentials in their track cars.

muffler
You are going to need heater boxes and a muffler if you use a 914 engine. The exhaust on a 914 it totally different than the 912E.
