Looking for engine number 752128

I am trying to find my original engine for my 67 912. I was thinking maybe there are others that might be looking for theirs as well. Lets start an engine finding tread. If you or someone you know has engines laying around. I am looking for engine # 752128.

Thanks

Hi Jerry,

I've enjoyed your build thread. Thanks for sharing.

A while back I saw someone selling 912 engine cases and in the background I could see he had at least thirty of them stacked on shelves in the background. I will hunt that down and get back to you.

Take care

Thanks The color is a custom color designed to be close to Porsche metallic blue but has some peril. The engine # is 750266.

Harpo 05-07-2016 07:12 AM

I believe that was unobtanium that had all of those cases for sale

Also have 1285004.

I have a 68 and your case is in the range but i don't know the number of it, when I get it I will keep you in mind.
Thanks

hi
available good/suitable technology for a "new" engine number.
I think,this half illegal..or not?
the cost about 200$...
Need the front third cover(location of number).

Lets be clear here; slapping on a 3rd piece of the case with a "correct" number does not make an original engine.

It does pass the "numbers matching" test.

But would you say that out loud?

With that being said, unless you are original owner and can show that it has never been rebuilt or open up. You can say that about any engine. "It only has matching numbers."

I have an Australian delivered 1965 912. When I bought the car 5 years ago it did not have the original engine.
Porsche Australia told me the engine I have (746204) is from a USA delivered 1966 912.

More questions than answers: Original engine numbers

I've been thinking about the whole process of trying to find an engine that matches the chassis number. Is that realistically possible? Under what conditions would someone remove their motor and replace it? To whom would they sell it considering it was likely blown and worthless in the day went 912s were not worth anything?

Of course, all of this occurred under previous owners so it is mostly impossible to know the answer. Is finding their original motor something anyone has actually achieved? Any thoughts on the probability of finding their original? If, by some miracle, you did find an owner with the motor how would you determine the fair price?

BTW, my numbers do not match and I can't imagine that my original motor (1282366) is out there. If I did find it would I pass up my '65-numbered motor that I just had overhauled for $10K+ and why unless I had a show car?

Just wondering.

That should be correct as I have a 912 built 8/5/66 with # 750782 titled as a 67 .

MY '68 was sold new in San Francisco. Sometime early in life it was stolen. When it was recovered the motor had been removed and the insurance company had a "new" '68 smog equipped motor installed. This was not a factory unstamped 3rd piece motor as it has '68 numbers on it. Where did this motor come from? Perhaps a totaled car. BTW, does anyone have my original '68 motor err 3rd piece #1281023.

This happens more often in the 911 world I would guess and there are stories on the 911S site. The numbers on a 911 case are stamped on the actual case not on a removable 3rd piece. However they are bootlegged and re-stamped do to value.

Heck no, just do the 3rd piece swap and pretend the case numbers are good. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif
