Vin number decode questions

Hello,

I have a '67 912 vin 459806. How much can the vin decode past the color of the car? Can it tell me if my 912 came with foglights or is the wiring that is still there and functioning after a volt meter test. So the fog light wired are connected to the fog light switch, 'optional'. I know the swtich prob would receive a 'blank' cover in the switch spot on the dash, but these cars are old and one can wonder. Also, the bumper has the blanks on it as well. So can the vin decode if foglights were factory origial to the car? Is the woring original or was it all the same wiring , with foglight wiring, just for the option?

I have 14" Fochs currently on the car, that cam with the car. I am wondering if these fuchs came with the car on original purchase from the factory? I know this was an option.

Any info helps.

Thanks,
Corey

Your VIN tells you nothing about the car other than identifying it as a Karmann built 1967 chassis. You would need to obtain either a Kardex or Certificate of Authenticity (COA) to determine what options the car were fitted to the car at the factory. Your 14" Fuchs are neither original nor an option on a '67. They started in '69. 4-1/2" x 15" Fuchs would have been an option in '67. Can't speak as to your fog lights. Can you post a picture of the switch? Is it a stock switch? I'd guess that if you have blanks, your car probably didn't come with fog lights.

Good morning Corey.
Your vin # is merely a sequential #
It won't tell you if the car had any options.
That info can be had from Porsche by obtaining (paying) for a Kardex.
Also known as a certificate of authenticity.
Your car should have a paint code tag close to the vin tag.
If I remember correctly all the cars were wired for fog lights.
Hope this helps.

Yes, all cars were wired for fogs lamps. The 67 like the 66 did not have a blank for the fog switch. The factory or the dealer drilled the hole at the time of insulation of the fogs or the gas heater.

If you still have the blanks installed in the front valence. Then the car never came with fogs lamps installed.
