Half-Lobro, half-Nadella ???
Hi all
So, I picked up my 'new' 1966 912 on Friday afternoon, and took it straight around to my friend who, conveniently, served his apprenticeship with Porsche a few years ago. The plan is (was?) to do the few jobs necessary for the car to pass its Roadworthy inspection, and take the rest at a rather more leisurely pace. But it's already thrown us the first curve ball ... Looking more closely underneath, the LHS half-shaft is the Nadella type with Universal Joints - correct for 1966, I think - while the RHS has the more common Lobro CV joints. And yes, I do feel exceptionally stupid for not picking this up before ... So, how to fix? I guess the sensible thing to do is to replace the LHS half-shaft with a Lobro one, if we can find one somewhere. I guess we'll start searching! Cheers James |

You might try the half shafts from a beetle 1300S. They should fit without problem as i found out on my 68 SWB 912.
To be absolutely sure, take your Lobro with you to the shop for size comparison. Cheers, |

My 66 has Nadella shafts, which I'm updating to Lobros. I think the change over was between early 66 and late 66. I would of liked to keep the Nadellas, for originality, but I've found out it's quite a task to get them repaired.
I didn't know about the 1300s, certainly a cheaper/ more available option... But you also have to consider updating the flange on the gearbox and also the stub axles that go through the hub. To my knowledge, these are also different. Nadella has a four bolt pattern and early Lobros have six. But I've been told the spacing is the same? Can anyone confirm this? James, How is your Lobro RHS connect? Does it bolt up to something that has less holes!! Sorry to add to your curve ball! Just a couple of things when looking for the parts. Hey James
Is there something wrong with the Nadella type shaft? If nothing, leave it. JMHO . From what I here, the shaft will give you notice when its tired and needing replacing. Brett Last edited by adot; 01-20-2003 at 04:44 AM.. |

Hi folks
Update: I think I've located a half-shaft from an IRS beetle which should fit, and a local Porsche guy reckons he can help with a stub-axle and gearbox flange. So hopefully we're there. Thanks for the advice; I'll let you know how we get on. Cheers James ps adot: I agree entirely with the 'if it ain't broke ...' school of thought, but unfortunately it is broke - the lower UJ on the Nadella shaft is shot

James, there was a thread about Nadellas on this board a few months ago, you might want to search back for it. Also, the 912 Registry has a page with info:
