Question Coil Over Options

For 914, what are the coil over options???

Are there different kits available.

Currently, on the rear I have the Koni Adj shocks and with the 16x12 tires and 3" spacers, need to increase the rear spring rate. Similarly, I have 16x10.5 tires in the front and 2.5" spacers with 23mm T-Bars and Koni Adj shocks

Thanks in advance

The rears are already coil-over-shock design.

To convert the fronts from torsion bars to coil springs, you will need to reinforce the strut mount and the sheetmetal that holds it. It was not designed to bear the whole weight of the car, and will crack after a while.

There are front conversion kits available, but I don't know where you'd get them offhand. They're a bit more involved than I need... General consensus is that they're not worth the bother until you need more spring rate up front than torsion bars (that fit) can give you.

The rear springs can simply be replaced with higher-rate ones. Those are available all over, from local speed shops (a coil spring is a coil spring, just the rate, free length, and diameter are important).

I have the Koni Sports shocks on the rear with the Weltmeister adjustable purches. I currently use 300# springs which is what was needed to keep the inside front wheel down. They use a standard off-the-shelf coil over that can be bought at most race shops. For the front I stayed with the t-bars as I did not want to have to replace the upper fender shock areas with the aftermarket sheetmetal. Good luck.

Thanks for the info...

I plan to reinforce the front end to handle the coil overs. I will need the additional spring rate in the front due to the tire size and spacers that I am using the 914.

Try Ground Control. They make coil over setups for just about everything.
