YES!!!
I found out the hard way. My 914 tech was testing out my new brakes and stuff when the brake line in the center tunnel gave out. At first he thought it was the master cylinder...but when he checked that it looked good to him...then he thought "oh no" (not the words you want to hear from a mechanic). he followed the dripping brake fluid to the center tunnel. Lucky for him he had just adj the hand brake, so he used that to get it back to the shop. So now I have a center tunnel full of brake fluid and have to wait a couple more days for my car to be ready. Just thought I'd vent ![]() Nathan PS: This is after having my fitment issues regarding the 914/6 rotors on my 914/4 calipers in the read (and Dave, you were right it was in fact a rotor diameter issue, i heard my mechanic wrong). All of this for that neat-oh 5-bolt look and big brakes up front...sheesh ![]() Will post pics when it actually is finished though.

Yep ... if the throttle cable was accidentally mis-routed in the tunnel, I can see how (with time) it could saw its way through the brake line heading to the rear.
Bummer ... ![]()

Bummer. I guess you could have hooked up the throttle to the brakes.
![]() BTW, the m/c is supposed to be a dual system. The front brakes should have kept working. |

somebody losing a line and NOT have the pedal go right to the floor. I also don't know how you can bleed brakes by opening only one bleeder, shouldn't the pedal be really hard to press? I really want to know. The M/C diagram seems to show the 2 pistons connected together. Mark S. '70 914-6 |

They are, but there is a piston in the way. It "free floats", and is used to trip the barke warning light switch. You may have to pump the brakes to get them to work--every time you use the brakes, which is nasty--but you should be able to get at least some braking action.
