We've taken a queue from our west coast bretheren. The 914 Southeast Michigan Owners Group (SMOG) will hold our first ever 9:14 (AM) breakfast at the "Little Daddy's" restaurant in Taylor MI on March 22nd. It's at 22250 Eureka Rd. less than a mile from I-75. Most likely it's not gonna be 914 drivin' weather, but it's about the people too! E-mail me if you need directions.

Hey, It's a public place. We can't control who they let in. Just kidding. By all means, show up and you'll be treated to the company of some of the finest car enthusiests the area has to offer. There will be no better place, probably in the world, that day, to learn about the 914.
Hope to see you there. Tom

OK, I hate to be a Cliff Clavin here (reference to the sitcom Cheers), but do you all know WHY there is a strong rivaly between MI and OH?? I do. And it is an interesting story.
If even one person indicates interest I will share my info........if not, you may all wallow in your "educational" mediocrity (no doubt attained at Ohio State with an open enrollment policy..........) Eh eh eh. Potter (Spartan through and through.......)

Flormat, most likely not this event. However, she is more than welcome to be part of our First 914 Breakfast. If she wants to come bring her. Now as driving events go most wifes go with. We try to make them part of our group always.

Man, I thought nobody was EVER gunna ask. I was startin' to feel like the dumb kid in the back of the room when the teacher finally asks a question to which I know the answer and I'm waggin' my hand in the air so hard it almost flies off..but she does not see me.....cough cough.......but I digress
![]() Toledo, Michigan first appeared on a map in 1835. The village of Toledo and a 450-square-mile strip of land along the Michigan/Ohio border became known as the "Toledo Strip", claimed by the state of Ohio and the Michigan Territory. ![]() ![]() Various surveys resulted in a 50-year dispute over the Toledo Strip, which was only five miles wide at the Indiana border and eight miles wide at Lake Erie. Although it has been reported that no shots were fired, Ohio and Michigan militia units were sent to the Toledo Strip between 1835 and 1837. But luck was on Ohio's side. At the time, the Compromise of 1820 allowed the admission of one slave state for one free state. Michigan and Missouri were to be admitted as states, but only when Michigan surrendered the Toledo Strip to Ohio. The reason? Probably because a Presidential election was coming up. State of Ohio residents could vote, while Michigan Territory residents could not. ![]() While the Michigan Territory originally vowed to fight the surrender, it realized the hopelessness of the contest, and on December 14, 1836, officially conceded the Toledo Strip to Ohio. In return, the new state of Michigan was given the remainder of the unorganized Upper Peninsula by Congress. Toledo became Toledo, Ohio, and victorious Ohio governor Robert Lucas was honored with the name Lucas County, the eastern portion of the Toledo Strip. The rivalry initiated by this conflict has been perpetuated most notably in college athletics. Pass me another beer, Norm. Admit it, you are impressed........ ![]()

I'm disappointed. I was hoping for a Mesopotamian connection.

Ummmm, I think one of the soldiers involved once had a childhood friend that lived next to a guy who met a dentist on a train who read somewhere that a fight ensued after a guy stated that he once made a "mess on Arcadia" (presumably the National Park in Maine) which somebody nearby mistakenly heard as "Mesopotamia" and became offended for unknown reasons and started punching. Does that help???

Man I love you guys.
I am amazed how much Potter & Curvie know about our great state of MI & that other piece of real estate south of us. We got the best deal with the Upper Peninsula (Yoopers). It's the last great frontier of wilderness. Home of Mich Tech., right up there with U of M & Mich State. The last time I was there in early June they had snow on the side of the mountain at copper harbor. I was at the logging slide at Lake Superior watching "Bald Eagles" fishing the shore line for lake Trout. I guarentee they don't have many 914's up there, just snowmobiles & 4x4's.
