High perfomance cup holders?
I need a cup holder that can hold a 64oz drink... errr... passenger floors are not an option.
![]() I spillded a drink, a whole drink.. heh It was like a little carbonated perlon ice-flow, this is like the 10,000 spill in a teenie for me, I am sick of it. Nicked my new reverse tring to juggle, then paddle.. Maybe it's time for a half-gallon sippy cup. M

Sounds like you need a minivan - where drinks belong. 914's are cars, not bars.

Ron, I could rig my washer bottle up to one of those, as long as I keep some pressure in the spare!
If you ride arond in the sun all day, you have to get a drink.. truth be known, I have actually eaten in 914s also. =o0 M

Funny you should say..
Last night, on the way back from picking up some ice cream for a friend's wife, I had him hold my coffee. I said, "..hey man, hold your finger on this til we get out on the street", and he jokes, "What else am I gonna have to hold my finger on to make it work?", he laughed, and planted his finger in the middle of the dash.. about the time we hit the transition, and 200 degree coffee splashed on his finger.. ![]() HAH! M,
Ron Meier has the basis for a decent idea there. You could get one of those cardboard drink holders from McDonalds. Cut it as needed to fit snug in the space behind your seat, with at least one cup opening left to place your 64 ouncer. Then grab a spare piece of vacuum hose (preferrably the clear kind) and run that from the cup as your straw. You could even get fancy and get a small alligator clip so you can fasten the hose to your seatbelt (near your chest) to keep the "straw" within reach. Hands free drinking!

Buy a decent spare center console pad, the one that fits between the seats.
Turn it over and carve out a hole wide enough to hold your beverage container and deep enough to almost go througfh but not quite. Seal the foam around the hole with some sort of hardening chemical, epoxy, laquer, who knows. You'll have to experiment here. On second thought, just make one from scratch. get some wood and carve it so that it fits well in the plastic tray, maybe use velcro on the bottom to make it secure. Cut a second piece to go across the top with holes cut in it, then figure out what you beed to space the top and bottom piece. Some nice stain and varnish, you're there and it isn't a permanent modification. There might even be a market for them, only problem is most 914 owners are too frugal to spend very much money on something that doesn't make the car lighter of the engine more powerful. |

IMHO, the best drink holder results from one going down to Hooters and asking one of the waitresses if they would like to go for a ride. I am sure one could talk her into holding the cup. If the weather is nice, maybe both tops can be off

C'mon be honest, sometimes....
When I go on a long trip that involves 4 lane highway, or even (gasp) interstate, and food enroute is a requirement, I have a classic 99 cent, hang on the window type. Pull out the ashtry a bit, slip the lip over the top of the opening, and push ashtry back in. Stays in well- although it's not big enough for a 64 oz drink. It will fit in the glovebox, and it is too ugly to forget to put it up.
