backfire?
Hi everyone,
So I'm still new to the 914 scene and I'm still learning how to fix it! Currently my issue is with starting. When cranking the engine, it seems as if I'm getting a backfire through the intake? I read that the distributor could be incorrectly installed, but won't it only go in one way? I also read that it could be a timing issue, but don't you have to have the engine running to set the timing? I appreciate your assistance and patience. I posted this on 914 world as well, but thought I'd post it here because the more help I can get the better! Thank you! Steven |

1- The distributor is supposed to only be able to go in one way. We know quite a few people who have managed to do it, though.
2- You can do a static timing to the engine. Make sure that the spark fires pretty close to TDC, which should be good enough to start the motor. --DD

^^^ And let's not forget to ensure the wires are going to the correct plugs in the proper order...
