I assume you're referring to the black plastic box with the knob on top?
it's the cover for the relay board. Unscrew the knob, take out the screws on side and you'll see relay board

the relay board underneath should never get wet. In the later 75 production, the stud was eliminated because it always led to the cracking of the cover and water leaking in
