can anyone tell me if a stock type 1 distibutor will work on a type 4 1.8 with a progressive weber? the 009 that i have sucks.

Other than the progressive carb being as good as a box of rocks (no big fans, here), I would either:

• * Find another 1.8L FI distributor (you can than utilize the vacuum advance by hooking it up to the carb), or
  * Go with a 050 distributor (wider advance curve than the all-at-once 009, and more palatable to the T-IVs).

I wouldn't recommend any other "heavy artillary" distributors (i.e. Mallory, Crane, etc), not because of cost, but that it might reveal your carb's primary shortcoming; performance.

You really arent going to get much with a distributor til you upgrade the carb. The progressives really are not all that good.
