jump start from starter question

with the key on can I jump start the car with a screwdriver touching the big black wire with the ground wire? Just thought I would ask before I tried it, did not want to short something

Big black wire (from battery) to the yellow wire on the solenoid (signal wire from ign.). That should energize the solenoid and crank the starter motor.

A remote starter switch is safer. After connecting to the two terminals, you can press the momentary switch from a safer distance.

I actually ahve a Big Start Switch in the engine compartment of the race car, wired up like that. Easier to quick prime the carbs and ger her warmed up without having to climb all over the rollcages.

Just make sure she's out of gear...

My switch is permanently wired, primarily to avoid wear and tear on my NLA ign. switch (crank contacts). A relay installed close-by reduces voltage drop to the solenoid and allows using a simple momentary switch to energize.
