i've got to figure out the wiring on the fuse panel. i have a carbed engine and want to know to which fuse panel terminal do you usually wire the fuel pump. TIA

Fuse panel layout here:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/technical_specs/914_electrical_fuses.htm Usually to #8 or #9, I believe both of those carry "switched power". There is very frequently an unused spade terminal connected to one of those. With luck, you can just plug a female terminal onto one of those. Although the radio might be hooked up to it already. --DD

thanks Dave, we don't have no heavy stinkin' radio
![]() the schematic in the haynes for a 73 is not the easiest thing for me to see/read. would you say the wiring for a 74 is the "same" as the wiring for a 73? i can read the haynes schematic for the 74 much easier (old eyes not for tiny print) johnb, i have the haynes for the schematic. does your book have any pix of fuse panel?

The 73/74 wiring is not the same, but in this case I think it is close enough.
For the fuse panel diagram, click on the link in my earlier post. --DD

Ugh... I don't like taking any more current away from the coil than I really need to.
If you're putting the pump in front, that's a long way to run an extra wire when you can just put it on the fuse block. If you're running an engine-bay-mounted pump, use one of the stock relays to power the pump. One of the pins in the four-pin connector at the left-rear of the relay board works very nicely for that... --DD

Yes, if its in the front trunk, please give the benifit of the doubt that i would not take that much time to run a wire solely to the coil. But being in the engine compartmet, its an easy hook up. There is no dual relay to conviently get water in it and fail. Now i forgot about the 4 pins on the relay board, that would be my vote.

if you are running an after market points replacement watch out running to the coil. i ran a wire to the cig lighter terminal on the fuse pannel to run the fuel pump. my pump is on the lower firewall of the engine compartment. i ran the wire along the wiring bundle, through the interior.

What about vapor lock with a pump near the engine?

i have no problem with vapor lock with the pump mounted on the lower fire wall. the pump is mounted lower than the outlet of the fuel tank.

What does having the pump lower than the fuel tank outlet do?

i use the rotary pump for webers from cb perfomance. my understanding is they are better "pushers' than "pullers". with the pump mounted lower, the pump doesn't have to pull the fuel uphill. these pumps are very quiet. they don't have the clattering rattle of the facet type and they come with a regulator so as not to deliver eccessive fuel pressure.

Years ago I bought a rusted out parts car with a Rotary conversion. It had 2 Facet pumps running in sequence and I have always wondered why. Any ideas. Just curious. Pete

Do you need anything between the fuse panel and the fuel pump? (some kind of relay or something?) What gauge wire ? Thanks, Pete (electrical maroon)

my fuel pump came with its own fuse on the wire for the power. lower amp rating than the connection point on the fuse panel. the noise from 2 facets must have been nice.
