914 - Lost Keys
Bought a Barn Find, this is my 4th. I have had 2 914-6 barn finds (in the 90's) and a 914 1.7 in the early 2000s. This one is a '74 914-2.0.
No Keys came with this '74........ QUESTION - what is the best procedure to have a key made - My initial approach was to take the tumbler from one of the doors and have a locksmith cut a key from the tumbler. Any suggestions or experience would be extremely helpful, |

I’m not sure about 914s but I lost my keys to my 81 911 and i was able to get one from the dealer with proof of ownership. Although, I have to warn you, it ended up being an outrageously expensive key!

Key Made from Door Handle Lock
UPDATE: I was able to get the entire car tumblers operational (including ignition) with the door tumbler as the reference. Any 'locksmith' can do this work, I was told that it was a bit of a challenge since the tumblers are double-sided.

Re: Key Replacement
I took my 914-6 door and trunk locks (an easy removal) to a local San Diego key shop that specialized in vintage cars. Using black headed key blanks, purchased from Pelican, he cut 2x new replacement keys ... cut and working in less than an hour. I took my license and matching registration to prove ownership of the car. Cost $60. As I lived an hour away from the shop, it took as much time driving there as it took him to cut the key. R.
