Is this case worn out?
I'm builing a 2056cc engine for my 914. After taking some measurements with a bore gauge I wonder if this case will last awhile or if I should find a better case. Here are the specs from my book:
Main #1-3 2.7559-2.7567" wear limit: 2.7570" Main #4 1.9685-1.9696" wear limit: 1.97" I bolted my case together by torquing the bearing saddle bolts to 25ft-lbs. The saddles are slightly egg-shape, with 0.001" difference in the diameters. The worst saddle measures 2.7567 to 2.7568. This seems pretty good to me for a 30 year old case, but I want to try to avoid builing this engine if I'm only going to get 30k out of the case. What do you think? Ben |

I think the more common problem with bearing saddles is that they go out of alignment (the case warps). Have you, or are you going to align-check the case?
