High idle 914 2.0l D-jet yes another

Struggling with high idle. Have a leaking vacuum advance, and wondering if that would cause the idle to be overly high because it won’t retard timing at idle

Also, I have a leak at the throttle shaft pretty bad

And a small pinhole leak around solder at plenum support tube

Suggestions?

Any vac leaks will cause high idle, siomply because you're not properly controlling the air with the throttle body.

Fix the leaks first.

I fixed plenum leak but noticed that the idle bleed screw does not seat all the way down (weird)

And vacuum advance seems to occur at idle then when you accelerate it retards!! Backwards! Yes the hoses are connected correctly but it operates exactly backwards

That's not backwards. Less vac retards the timing

This doesn’t look right the feet are not in the slots on the advance weights! The top piece seems stuck and I don’t want to force it how to fix?

This was seized why no spring back and idle always advanced

Problem was vacuum retard size of vacuum pod leaked and mechanical advance completely frozen. I was able to rebuild it and save the distributor using Freezeoff to unstick it then rebuild which was an absolute pain but great learning experience. Had to make some of my own washers thy are NLA with a dremel tool . Distributor rebuilding is best left to experts IMHO for future reference
Seems fixed idle is great will check timing and dwell later to verify too hot today to work outside it’s 105

Just a visual illusion the top shaft is supposed to turn clockwise from the lower to extend springs feet are just a guide no idea what the little indentations on the weights are there for

My Stuttgart resource says the indentation help to clear 'detritus' from the surfaces as it rotates. (His choice of english words is not always so great...)
