914 Seat Tracks and Seats

I have a question about seat tracks for a 1970 914. Is there a seat track on the passenger side of a 6 cylinder car? Can factory seats from a later car be bolted into a 1970 6 cylinder car or is the installation of a seat track required. Are the seats for a 4 cylinder car the same as the seats for a 6 cylinder car?

The 70-71 914s, both four- and six-cylinder, had fixed passenger seats. The seats were basically the same for both.

Installing a moveable passenger seat requires the seat, the later back pad, welding the mounting hardware brackets onto the floor pan, and installing the mounting hardware (including the rails) onto the brackets.

Tangerine Racing makes a hardware kit that lets you bolt a later, movable seat to your early (70-71) passenger side. No welding required. You will still need a later back pad or you can just carpet that area. There is a carpet kit sold on ebay for that purpose.

This was/is a very common "upgrade" to early 914's. Source a seat, back pad and the rails and mounting brackets and do a tiny bit of welding and you are good to go.

I did this modification to my '71 914-6 during the restoration as my wife is short, as am I, and I wanted her and others to be able to sit next to me and have the adjustment to make her seat comfortable. Every time she rides in the car she comments how comfortable the seat is.
