2.0 Valve adjustment
It is possible to adjust the valves on a 2 litre without removing the engine from the car. I have a 74 with a 2 liter in it now and it is ready for a valve adjustment and would like to avoid removing the engine for this alone.

Yes, you do it from underneath by removing the valve covers. Do a google search for information and how to.

It is a pain, but it is doable. Getting the wrench, screwdriver, and feeler gauge into the right area can be a challenge. I find that I need a stubby screwdriver, plus an offset screwdriver for some of the adjusting lugs. There are some small ratcheting offset screwdrivers that are very handy for this.
Something like this has worked for me. I find I have to use several different approaches to get my hands into the correct locations in the rocker box, depending on which valve I am checking. Sometimes from the front side of the head, sometimes from the aft side, sometimes through the gap between the chassis and suspension bits. --DD

I made this cute little screwdriver for just that task. I may do a run of them if there's enough interest.

The bevel on the working end nestles nicely into the box wrench when doing valve adjustments. Has a nice feel and is easy to palm when you've got it set and are snugging the lock nut.
