chassis stiffening

There is a lot of discussion about stiffening kits for 914. Is it really necessary to add stiffening materials to the car if the 914 is going to be used just for street use with a 2.7 and slightly wider tires? Would adding a stiffening kit increase the resale value?

My take is that it would add value to the next owner was taking a 2.7 powered 914 to the track.

These cars are old.. and compared to a modern car, they are not all that structurally impressive. Adding 200+ lbs in engine, oil, and ideally matched brakes and suspension, to me adding the stiffening kit seems like a prudent move.

Many choose to not add it.. but I thinks its worth it in the longer run. Because, who knows, maybe even you will go ahead and take your new powerful 914 to the AX or Track and want the car to be stiffer.

There's no downside to doing it, except time and money (and/or if you're planning a concourse resto, which you clearly are not).

And it does have some performance upsides.

If you're not worried about the time/money part, I'd suggest it.

I didn’t get around to stiffen the trailing arms and chassis on my 914-6 replicas with a 3.2 before I sold it. The next owner, who ran it on PCA/SCCA track events had to repair the longitudinals. That additional torque takes its toll on the old 914 tubes.
