#^@# Starter!!!!
OK guys help me out here. . . My starter won't go after a good drive. I've run my own relay off the dashboard that energizes the solinoid. This works 100% of the time and you can hear the solinoid pop, just no turn!
This really seems heat related, because when the car's cold or at least not run alot it'll start right up. What are my options? Will insulating the thing work? What options are there if I need a new one? I know the 911 starter is the item to get, but I just rebuilt this 2L and had to go into debt to get that done! I really can't afford an more than $50 fix. Please anyone with any ideas. Thanks Ian BTW I got the FI figured out, I just had to grow a set of balls and adjust the MPS to give me the fuel I needed! Bang nice quick 2L, man I love this car! |

If you've got time rather than money, you can try removing the starter (remember one of the bolts is removed from the engine side!). Then disassemble as much of it as you can, clean it up, re-lubricate the stuff that's supposed to be lubed, and re-assemble.
You should also consider replacing the big wire from the battery to the starter, and the tranny ground strap. Clean up all the connections as well as you possibly can. It's surprising what new wires and clean connections will do for ya--ask Brian K about it! It *may* not fix the problem, but it's a good bit cheaper than $50. --DD |

Well, I battled a long journy with my starter, and I got it to a point where it would crank, and then not... Off and on... The solution I found was that I forgot to tighten the post not on the relay, closest to the trans. (I unscrewed it...) Anyway, perhaps yours has rattled loose, and the heat causes the wire and screw to move just enough to diconnect. I just thought maybe, maybe... Well enough from me, thats about all I could offer, good luck.
