A couple of days ago, I stumbled on a response to 'how to use the 'stock latching mechanism'.... on the rear 914 trunk after the installation of the 'between the lights' PORSCHE reflector. This add-on covers the key unit, and I was initially going to go some sort of cable release from inside the car or even below the rear bumper.
One of the responders to his question recommended there was a sneaky but very clever way they used ......that was to drill a minute hole ( paperclip size) thru the fiberglass panel so as to be able to insert a paperclip dia rod thru it and release the lid. I meant to follow up with that person for more details and even some helpful directions. Now i can't find the link so if you see this request or you've also done this fix, please let me know ...tks, hobiecater My fall back solution is the cable route....any advice or directions on that would equally be appreciated |

A secondary method to access a keyed or cable controlled storage area (front or rear trunk) is mandatory, otherwise you're screwed. For your issue, there was an electric solenoid kit to remotely open the trunk. Not sure if still available, but there are pre-owned ones floating around. The one below appears to be home-built (fabricated mount and a repurposed solenoid), but equivalent. Still, a secondary method to access is needed in case the solenoid or circuit fails.
![]() The drill-a-small-hole through the reflector ideas is valid. The hole should be in the middle of the S (P O R S C H E). It isn't noticeable and should be in line with the latch lever to release the rear trunk mechanism. A paper clip may not be robust enough. A 16P construction nail is better (the nail head also reduces penetration in the opposite end). Caveat: However, this isn't a top security tip. Rigging a hidden cable release is more secure, but requires some fabrication. |

Hey, thanks for the quick response,and a couple of options. I'm a little reluctant to go the solenoid route, so the access hole thru the reflector..... and probably the method I would most like to install, the cable set up w/back-up as well.
