Any experience with the fender to cowl seal that Pelican sells? Are they OEM, or after market of the same design? Should one insist on the OE part for better sealing?

Pelican Parts worked ok for me...First thing is to clean out the groove. check for rust, recheck for rust...once you can admit to yourself that is is alittle rusty, remove all of the scale(ly) stuff and treat with POR15. I used a very small paint brush and took my time. You may have to thin the POR15...remember POR15 suggested mulitple thin coats. Once Dry install seals...I blw out this area with compresses air after washing or getting cought in the rain...anal, yes. But I have seen fist size rust holes @ the cowl seal...

Their cowl seals worked perfectly. Now all I need is a new paint job to make them look good.

How do you replace the cowl seals? Does the fender have to come off or do they slip out?

They "slip" in kind of a crimp fit....

They will come out with a little (or alot of) pursuation. Warm up the new ones with a hair dryer (not too much!) to make them easier to install evenly.

Does anyone put clear silicone in the seam before the cowl seal?
Cheers Kerry

I don't think that would be a very good idea since the silicone would cause more problems than it may solve. The idea of the cowl seal is to (of course) keep water out of the seam. IF any moisture were to get into the seam the silicone would hinder the moisture from evaporating. Most damage in this area is because the cowl seal has deteriorated (shrunk) and is not functioning the way that it should. The seal should extend slightly beyond the metal so that water will run off the ends of the seal rather than into the seam.
