I'd like to add the 911 oil pressure/ temp. gauge to my '73 conversion. I searched the archives here and came up with several messages saying "yes it fits" and "the wires work" but nothing on "How To".
Does all the wiring go through the relay board to stock wires in the dash? Or will I need run my own? I'm not very electrically inclined (see previous posts). TIA, again. Mike D. ![]() |

Since the 914 doesn't have any oil pressure gauge, you'll have to run a wire for it.
You'll lose your fuel level gauge, unless you make some kind of provision for mounting it somewhere else. You will have to do some fiddling with the wiring to get the gauges to work. If you have a 70-72 car, you will have to add another wire to the main harness for the signal from the temp gauge. 73+ cars should have that wire, but you'll have to find it and then extend it up to behind the dash. Get thee to an electrical supply house and find some "piggyback connectors". These are female spade connectors with two male connectors coming out the back. This lets you extend wires to reach more places without having to chop up the car's wiring harness. (I really wish I'd figured that one out earlier....) You'll need to extend the power wire (red/white) to run from one gauge to the other. Likewise the ground (brown) wire. I think the gauge with the oil temp and pressure has more illumination lights than the 914 one, so you'll need to extend those wires as well (black/blue and brown). You pretty much pull the old gauge out, plug in your new wires to the old ones, run your signal wires, plug all of that mess into the new gauge, and push the new gauge into the dash. Tape up the wires to the fuel gauge so they don't short out on anything, though. Until you find where you want to put that gauge, at least. Then you'll probably have to run wires to the new location for the gauge. BTW, the common aftermarket fuel gauge is the wrong range for our senders. You can have a custom gauge made or use an aftermarket sender and aftermarket gauge. --DD

I was thinking about getting a turbo tach and having NoHo Speedo convert the boost gauge into a fuel level gauge. I've seen this done in other 914's and It looks nice. Not sure how much $$ though.

Is there a fuel guage that will work with the 914 sender made by VDO? I have the combo 911 guage and would like to put a fuel guate in the consule where I took out the temp guage. will the 911 single guages work? I went to the pomona swap meet last sunday and there were a lot of 911 guages for sale.

Got a pic here somewhere.....ah, yes
![]() I didn't add any wires for the temp/press gauge, just used those from the t-4. I'll have to go out and look as I doan remember which I used.....but the color code is there. You'll want to use an early guage SC or older If memory serves).....thems with little tiny wires don't cut it. Got the fuel gauge (VDO) from Auto.....them guys in Georgia...onliest place I could find one calibrated to the 914 fuel sender.......30 bucks, as I recall.

Regarding the wire...
Don't know for the other year, but for a 70 914-4 look closely at the wiring diagrams in haynes (the ones on Pelican don't show it) there was provision for the oil temp sender and gauge. You should find a wire between the relay boad and the gauge cluster for this. (for the 70 it was wired for some reason via the relay board and main harness unlike the other year). Don't remember if it's green-black or green-red. If you don't want to run an extra wire, use the existant wire from the oil pressure idiot light and use it for the oil presure gauge. As for the fuel gauge, you could do what Sabin did: http://www.farleydw.com/gauges_6.html HTH Marc-Andre Morin 70 914-6 conversion 3.0L Webers |

When using the 911 temp and pressure gauges you need to match the part # off the gauge to the right sender or you'll get inaccurate readings. I have a list that shows the gauge part #'s from '70 to '89 and the sender part # to use with that gauge. If you post your gauge # I can tell you what sender to use with it. Example: '74 combo gauge # 911 641 104 29, use temp sender #901 641 632 00 and pressure sender # 911 606 111 00.

Bernie; is that a VDO gauge? The number should start with 911. It's printed in small numbers at the very top of the gauge. You need to get down low and look up under the black ring to see it. My list only covers 911 VDO gauges. There's actually only two different senders for temp and two for pressure.

I have a guage as well. Man, I would never have seen the 911 part number on the face without directions! Mine is 911 641 103 03 with a 1100 spaced off to the right. Does this one show up on your list? (came from a 78sc, thinking of putting in in a stock 70 914/6)

Krk; That is a '78 gauge. The temp sender for that gauge should be 911 606 112 00 and the pressure gauge sender should be 911 606 111 01. FYI, the sender for oil pressure light is actually different from the gauge sender, it's 911 606 230 00. Good Luck.
Bernie; that part number isn't showing on my list. Make sure your getting it from the top front of the gauge. I have a druck pressure gauge here and it has a 911 part #. |

I know there's a big fat easily read number on the side of the barrel holding the gauges. It would be convenient, but that's not the number. There a teeny tiny number inside the face plate. When you're staring at the front of it, find the OEL light (center of the unit -- temp on left, druck on right -- and look at 12 o'clock. tiny white lettering (on mine anyway). Drew: thx for the info! krk. |

Mine say's 911 641 103 05 then spaced out is 0003. My car is a '73, My bigest problem is I don't know what engine wire harness I have. The the pressure wire is green/red stripe.
Got any ideas on this one? Mike D. |

MikeD; my list doesn't show a gauge with 05 at the end. Are you sure it's not 03? If so than the senders are the same as for krk's above. If you didn't have a pressure gauge before you'll have to run a wire from the gauge to the sender or use the wire for the oil light and not have the light working.

It definately says 05, and there is no manufacture date stamped in the housing like on other VDO gauges.
Very Peculiar... -Mike D. |

MikeD; Sorry, there was an asterick I didn't see that says 911 641 103 05 supercedes to 911 641 923 00. Problem is that gauge is listed with two pressure senders depending on which year car it came out of. Here is what I have:
'82/'83 model year, gauge 911 641 923 00, temp sender 911 606 112 00, pressure gauge sender 911 606 111 01. '84-'89 model years, pressure gauge sender 911 606 135 00 |

Just went to look at the senders, YEAH RIGHT, all I see is VDO stamped on one side temp sender, not that I can see it all that well. I'll get a bigger mirror and bigger light....
