I received a email from AA that stated that when 100 deposits of $50.00 had been received, production of their $650 (Per set of 4) flares would begin. The email stated that they were over half way to their goal of 100!

![]() Got a heads up from AA a few days ago. I was told I would have my long awaited flares very soon. 2 to 3 weeks............? The first 100 sets were just about complete at the time of my call on 2/10/2003.

AA's steel flares. What's a 2 or 3 week wait when those people who have their names on the list have been waiting 4 years!

Pelican Parts can get the AA flares for you, same price as from AA. They're the same parts, but if you prefer to deal with us....

Dave,
I'm interested in the reproduction steel flares, but wanted to What is the maximum width/size of wheels I can fit under steel flares? I was looking towards 17x7 front and 17x9 rear is this possible? I have a '75 2.0 with 4 lug fuchs at the mo, I will be doing a five lug conversion/suspension set up upgrade (poss 911sc) at the end of the summer to enable the 5 lug wheels. In addition how do you do overseas delivery, do you have tips on the most cost effective way? I don't need parts particularly quickly. Thanks Paul |

A lot of "what can fit" depends on... Well, on a whole lot of things!
Which fenders are these? Well, I haven't seen the AA flares by themselves, let alone installed on a 914, so I don't know what the variables are there. 914s vary from car to car in what fits in the rear fenders. So presumably they will also vary once the flares are installed. There is latitude in how the flares get installed, and that can make a difference. You can even use extra strips of metal to move the flares further out, though that's a whole lot of extra work and money. The wheels themselves matter--some sit further out from the hub than others. So you have to find wheels with the correct "backspacing" or "offset". (About 4.75" backspacing should let you get as much as you can under the fenders--you only have about 5" of room between the rear hub and the trailing arm.) And, of course, the tires play a major role as well. Tires that are almost too narrow for 9s will fit under problem fenders easier than tires that are almost too wide for 9s. All that said, you will probably be able to fit them if you get the right 7- & 9-inch wheels and tires. --DD
