Euro turn indicators

You can now convert your US-side markers into Euro turn indicators with the new lenses from EUROLENS, Italy.

Those aren't European turn signals. Those are similar to the US side marker lights. Lights like these were also used on Italian-spec cars, together with white lenses for the front turn signals.

Perhaps that's what you mean?

Most of the European 914s did not have these lights at all.

They are European, as specified by manufacturer EUROLENS, and come with "Economic Commission for Europe" certification marks: "E3" = Italy and "5": additional flashing light for side vehicles up to 6m in length)

This statement is wrong. (US-)Side marker lights are not permitted in the European Union.

That's right. They were only delivered to selected countries, e.g. Italy.

Don't see these lens on the Eurolens website.
Can you direct me to them?

They may be made for part of Europe, but they are not the ones used for almost all of Europe--the "European turn signal lenses", which were amber for most of the lens and white on the bottom quarter or so.

1 - I did not say that it was a US side-marker light, merely that it was similar to that. Which it is.

2- US side-marker lights appear to be legal on at least some 914s that have been re-imported from the US back into Europe.

If the US side markers are not legal on the other side of the pond, would the Euro ones be legal here?

The Euro turn signals look so much better without the side marker

Seems like half the folks that restore their 914's here in the US delete the front side markers.
I don't think anyone would care if you put the Italian side marker lens on vs using the US lens.
No police or DMV would ever be that knowledgable or know the difference.

IMHO...the Italian lens looks a million times better than the US version.
Haven't seen these reproductions from Eurolens yet, so not sure if they've got the correct orangish-red color, etc.
From the pics, they do look promising though.

I believe that technically it is illegal to delete the side-markers and used European lenses on 914s in the US. They do not meet DOT requirements, which is why the US-spec stuff was used.

I am certain that these particular prohibitions are never enforced.

FWIW, I do not care for the Italian turn signal lenses. I far prefer the look of the European ones.

This is all part of the charm of the 914. It is affordable to transform the car as you like. The only parts on my car that are original is the doors and the trailing arms. LOL

Dave... It may not be a matter of enforcement, but a matter of knowledge. I know the place that I get my cars vehicle inspection done has no idea what is supposed to be on the car. Technically, they should have all of the emissions equipment intact, but I know the 70 doesn't have the lines for the charcoal canister on it.

And I have been going there long enough that they just ask "Does everything work?" I reply yes, and they put in the inspection results.

That would be one reason that a law is not enforced. The people doing the enforcement have no idea what the standards are. Another is that they don't care, or they understand that it doesn't make any actual difference.
