How to remove windshield

how on earth do you remove the windshield without breaking it or bending the chrome around it?

First remove the chrome trim. Slip a putty knife blade underneath and carefully pop it off the clips all around.

Once the trim is off, use a guitar string or some picture wire. Get the window separate somewhere around the edge from the butyl seal. Do it from the inside. This may be the hardest part to get started without breaking the window. If your window is loose, then it may be easier.

Once you can get the wire through then you can sort of saw the windshield away from the frame. Then lift it off.

Option #2 - BFH (Big ****** hammer).

Search the Pelican archives. There may be tech article on it.

Good luck!

Usually, I find that kicking the crap out of it from inside the car is a great way to get the window to pop out.

New laws and liability now require installers to use butly sealant. On my 911, the glass is installed with the rubber gasket only at the factory ('77) When I had it replaced, the installer slipped some butyl into the gasket which made it impossible to reuse the gasket. I installed my race car glass with the butyl. I don't want it comming out.
