Sorry!
Hi All -
Sorry about the picture delays. I work for a company that had 100 people on staff as of Thursday. On Friday that number dropped to 10. I am one of the remaining 10 - which I cant decide if that is a good thing or a curse. I had to personally let 20 people go (I am the only one left in my department). My contract says I have to stay until the bitter end to receive my severance package which could be anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. I did do some additional work on the car today (Saturday) which was a nice break from real life. I promise to get the pics up this coming week. -Scott S

Scott,
I share your dilema. In my case I've concluded its a blessing. I've been with the same company for over 16 years. Five years ago I had to let all my staff go, including my assistant. Oouuch! Fortunately all found jobs. In 1991 when I relocated from a regional site to Scottsdale, the company had over 60 people. Now there are only a handful. But you know what? It's amazing what can be accomplished with a hand full of dedicated people. Its been difficult at times, but we're hanging in there. I have a sense that we're not the only company in this situation. Take care & hang in there. Lookin forward to the pics. Enjoy!

Scott, it sounds pretty brutal. I've been one of the survivors of three rounds of layoffs so far in my career, but nothing as extreme as what you've gone through. It can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on what happens with the company after that and on how you approach it all. Good luck with your "new" 10-person company!! (Hey, now it's lean and mean and competitive, right?)

Unfortunately no. I found out today that the president got a 40% salary increase and a 1.5 million dollar bonus - all of this while I am laying off someone who only made 30k a year and now has to find a way to pay $900 per month to keep her family insurance. I wont get into the boring details, but the lack of ethics by the president is truly astounding - academy award type of stuff. I am really thinking of forgetting about any employment/severance and going public.
I am a competeitive person, and I enjoy "playing the game" when it comes to out maneuvering my competition in the market place for the good of the team/company. To compete for purely personal gain at the expense of your company and your employees is unacceptable to me. I will always believe that you can be both successful financially, yet do so with ethics. I guess the greatest comfort can come from two simple childhood phrases: Always treat others the way you wish to be treated, and what comes around goes around! (go karma, go!) Now the GOOD news. I borrowed a dig camera today and took several pictures and a video. I will try and down load them at his place tomorrow ( I dont have the software) and finally get some pics up! Hope everyone had a nice long weekend!

I was given a choice at my last job, I could lay myself off, or fire someone with 2 years on me, and he has a family.
The choice was obvious, if not a bit painful. M

Ouch to both of those.
I do hear ya, Scott. The first really large round of layoffs at my day-job was followed by the company boss getting a nice plaque, ceremony, and cash award for saving the parent company so much money. By laying off a good-sized chunk of the company and freezing salaries for the rest of us. Not too many years later, he was dead. I wanted the jukebox concession at the grave site.... ![]() --DD

I have been self employed most of my life. Chicken one day, feather the next is the name of the game. At any point I have tried to work for someone else, the whole point seemed to be job survival, not performance. With the first act of sabotage, I was gone. Won't stand for that crap.
The upside is that I have time when I want it to work on cars. But why then has it taken me a year and a half to build a 914 race car? Some things don't add up. LOL |

The good news is I retire in 2yrs 350 days. The bad news is I got a kid in college who will be looking for work in the near future. (With any luck at all).
Cheers, and good luck to all Elliot

Work.. me too, as a musician. I am in the wreck-sector now, and it's pretty unbelieveable what counts as progress, or a good days work. Nobody knows, or does anything... it's hard to be a part of a phantom team. Anyone want to start a revolution? I don't mind a lil sweat. ![]() M |
