Need advice moving & updating fuel pump

HELP please
-- currently have 1973 914 2.0L 3-port leaking fuel pump passenger side rear.
Want to replace with new in-out fuel pump and relocate to driver's side front.

Anyone have experience doing this and what should the new fuel line plumbing diagram look like front and rear?

go here, https://bowlsby.net/914/Classic/TechNotebook.htm
scroll down to "technical ...".. you will then find hand drawn schematics. I have used the same when I moved my fuel pump (and changed to a 2 port config). the pump will go in the front on the passenger side. also the 914 brown handbook published by ***********/George hussy has a great technical DIY article.

The two-port pump basically eliminates the "R" fitting which goes to a Y-shaped adapter in the middle of the hose that returns fuel from the fuel pressure regulator to the tank. Get rid of the Y adapter and just run the return hose from the hard-line on the side of the engine bay to the hard-line through the center tunnel.

Check out Tangerineracing.com. Chris makes a 2 port pump mount, has the specs on the pump, and the ss lines you should also put in the car if that hasn't been done. He can "kit" up everything you need to make this projects as painless as possible. I did all of this with his stuff and his technical support as well.

You can use an Aritex E-8445 pump, available from FLAPS. It is a 2 port direct replacement for the factory pump.

Moving the pump to the front could be a greater safety risk depending on where it’s located. The 75-76 cars put it under the tank which is not easy to retrofit mount and access it there. Locting the pump in the front trunk spare tire well, a front end collision could also create a fire. Also with the pump in the front trunk the fuel lines running in the center tuneel in the cabin are pressurized and the 75-76 cars used higher pressure lines than the earlier nylon lines.

I use the stock pump in the stock location and have implemented the factory service bulletin P213 for it to prevent vapor lock.

If the pump absolutely needs to be moved to the front consider the steering rack recess under the cover plate and be sure to change the fuel lines in the tunnel to new stainless lines.

I believe our hosts here sell a direct replacement pump for the late model cars. Years ago I used to buy the original Bosch 69133 late model pumps on Amazon.
The Tangerine Racing pump mount works well next to the steering rack, and there's a fuel lines package with everything needed to complete the conversion.

Source a 75-76 pump/filter access cover and a 2 port pump. You will have to cut a rectangle in the front bulkhead. The pump package is now readily accessible from the front trunk. You don’t have to climb under the car to address the filter.

Little off line but with carbs I moved mine to the front under new tank location, inline fuse, easy access. Best, Mark

Your workmanship looks great but I would be very uncomfortable with that setup.

Is that a copper U-bend I see?

Why not mount your pump as the early 911 front pump location?

I make up a front mount that locates off the steel crossmember.....

This is certainly a safe location, and the hose routing can easily be worked out.

I do not have a 914 available to test fit, but would be happy to work with someone who would like to try this.

Please email me if interested: len.cummings @ verizon.net
