right gloss of black and dash cap

car's out getting painted, but I am going to do the bumpers, wheels and rockers. Rockers will get the chip guard finish and then black, bumpers will be black, rubber bumper overrides will get bumper black paint.

What gloss (flat, satin or high-gloss) would you put on :
bumpers?
rockers?
non-polished parts of a set of Rivieras? (what's original for the 4- and 5-spoke Fuchs wheels?)

I'll probably go with PPG acrylic enamel materials without a hardener, not regular enamels (i.e.: rustoleum).

I also want to install one of those black ABS plastic dash caps before the windshield goes back in. What kid of prep do you have to do to the dash? If it's all split and some stuff is sticking up do you have to cut that out first? What is the best plastic dash cap?

Satin for all of the parts mentioned.

The original Fuchs four-bolt wheels did not have any paint; they had a milky kind of anodizing on the lower areas and bare metal on the raised areas.

The original five-bolt Fuchs windmills had a flat- or satin-black in the anodizing on the lower areas on at least some. Some came without pigment, which I think resulted in the same kind of milky finish as on the four-bolts. Some were actually matched to the color of the car. Depended on what exactly was ordered by the dealer or the customer.

On the dash--
Knock down all the areas that have raised up away from the body of the dash. They will push the overlay up and away from the rest of the dash, which will make it not sit quite right. Not sure about other prep work.

The rubber overrides usually darken and shine up good using a tire or rubber treatment. I use Black Magic, Eagle One or Meguiars and they turn out nice. No paint to worry about cracking.

On the rockers & valences (front & rear) I used black Hammerite. put it on with a sponge roller. That gave it an exagerated hammered effect.
The plastic dash caps (at least mine is) great. It litterally "snaped" into place. Surprised the heck outta me. I just needed to anchor the back of the cowl over the gauges. It wants to ride about an 1/8th of an inch high. Other than that they are great. My dash only had 3 very minor cracks so I didn't need to smooth anything. I have pics that I'll post later. They aren't on this 'puter!

The caps are the originals and came with the car. What size tire are you going to put on?

I have stock (165-15) Michelin XZXs already, new in 2000. If I end up doing any track work, I have a set of steelies that will wear something more capable.
