Electical trouble
After I sent the car for paint, I decided to correct a few things in the interior. I disconnected the defrost light on the center console. Just unplugged it. Ok now the instrument lights are out. I taped the defost leads up, but still blow the fuse. My horn works OK. Also I just tried to to reistall the wipers. They do not work and I am blowing that fuse. If the defrost lever is UP is it drawing current? I don't have heat, took all the plumming out, but doe have a fresh air motor which runs. Any ideas?- Greg

lever up is "on"
when the lever is up the circuit is closed, but i think its is the ground that is switched, not the hot side. It closes one of the round black relays under the black cover on the left forward side of the engine compartment. I've had the defrost light disconnected for years with no problem. It's gotta be something to do with the wiper motor, or somewhere else that you disconnected (or became disconnected while you were in there). Sounds like a major short somewhere that is just putting a huge draw through the fuse panel. Is it possible that a lead from the wiper motor is shorting?

Sounds like you might have something grounding out or shorting. Check all of your leads to make sure that they can't possibly be touching anything. Even ones that appear covered. My car wouldn't turn off for the longest time until I figured out that the alternator was backfeeding through the idiot light. And the leads were elecrical taped by a previous owner (one whom I'd like to invite to coffe and accidentally spill it on him for aome of the work he's done!). Peace
