gauge size

Does any one know what the size of the guages used in the console are. I was thinking (first mistake) of replacing the stock temp gauge with a oil pressure gauge and would like to match the sizes.

There is a California company that was mentioned in a previous post that can provide gauge and sender. They also have the next step (what I was looking into) where the combo gauge is preplaced with one that incorps a temp gauge where the flashing e-brake light is on console equipped cars. I think it is a reman of the non-console combo gauge, but they provide correct senders etc. I'll try to find it. I rememnber it was pretty large $ for the desired end point (for me) so I let the idea go.

The gauges in the center console are an odd size. They are a little bit bigger than the common aftermarket VDO gauges. Usually an adaptor of some kind is required to get them to fit nicely.

There is a metal ring that works OK (I'm pretty sure we carry that), or you can do what Wayne did and use a roll of electrical tape instead. Use a razor knife (e.g., Exacto) to cut into the outside. Peel off the tape you've cut through. Keep at this until the OD of the tape matches or is a tiny bit bigger than the hole in the console. Then repeat the process on the ID of the tape roll. Work at it until the inside is the right size to go around the gauge.

The gauge will get messy from the glue where the tape is sitting against it. You can put a piece of tape sticky-side in to help with that, or you can just live with it.

I'm not aware of anyone selling new VDO gauges of the same size as the 914 console gauges.
