Link to discussion about timing advance, infamous +20HP claim on EBay

Was told there is an existing discussion about this "miracle" either here, on 914club, or Rennlist. Anyone know the thread off top of head?

Jack your timing up to 38-40 degrees@3000 rpm - engine will run like a bat out of hell until it blows due to overheating.

Bull****.
Advanced timing kills top end power! want dyno graphs to prove it?

Ok Jake - you win, but what about the low end pulling power? High end power is no good in road racing.

well, thats why you buy a distributor that allows the initial advance to be set higher(the way it normally would be if the entire timing was jacked way up) and limit the top end advancve..

This way you get the best of both worlds..plus fully recurvable advance that can be reset in 5 minutes..
VERY soon I won't be using any VW distributors on my engines, solely Mallory, they rock and reallyn wake up my combos.

Do you have to change the weights in order to set the advance?

Nope.......spring changes and breaker plate changes do the trick....takes 5 minutes to make a swap.
