Defroster wire installation at rear window

There are two wires that are attached to rear window for 914/6 cars with the rear window defroster option.
One is a brown colored wire associated with the ground.
The other is a green colored wire.
Which wire is installed on the passenger side of the car and which wire is installed on the driver side of the car?

The heating elements in the window are just resistors. It shouldn't matter which way around you plug them in.

Double check this by checking if either connection has continuity with ground! If so, check the resistance between that connection and ground. I don't know what the resistance of the heating grid is--it will probably be fairly low--but one will be a higher reading than the other. The higher resistance end would be the power, and the lower resistance to ground would be the ground connection.

I haven't yet seen one of the defroster setups actually hooked up and working. At least, not in any detail!
