73+ Engine Cross Member Replace or Fix?
It appears that the cross member on my 73 is bent. When installing the oil filter it actually drags on the cross member face. Is it possible to straighten a cross member or is it better to just replace it?

I would look for a replacement. I have a straight, but welded one sitting in my agrage and I decided not to use it. Better to be safe than sorry. Check out Parts Obsolete, or any other Porsche yard

what about heating it up and bending it back?
|
I wouldn't...
However, it is more likely that the mounting bolts and/or the outboard (solid) mounts are bent than the bar itself. The bar is a really beefy piece of work, and the bolts seem to bend before it does. Try removing the bar and looking at the bolts. Inspect those outer mounting plates as well. --DD |
i have a bent bar. i have a blacksmith friend. i haven't tried un-bending it though as i don't need one
