It appears that the cross member on my 73 is bent. When installing the oil filter it actually drags on the cross member face. Is it possible to straighten a cross member or is it better to just replace it?

I would look for a replacement. I have a straight, but welded one sitting in my agrage and I decided not to use it. Better to be safe than sorry. Check out Parts Obsolete, or any other Porsche yard

I wouldn't...
However, it is more likely that the mounting bolts and/or the outboard (solid) mounts are bent than the bar itself. The bar is a really beefy piece of work, and the bolts seem to bend before it does. Try removing the bar and looking at the bolts. Inspect those outer mounting plates as well. --DD
