73 914 Directions do not work.

I have a 73 914 2.0 the directionals do not work. The four way flashers work. Are there two separate relays for the directionals and flashers? If there is a separate relay for the directionals where is it located? When I turn on the directionals the arrows on the dash do not light either.

There is only one flasher relay for all of the blinking lights in the car!

The different circuits all use that one relay but usually through different switches and such.

The turn signals go through the switch, while the hazards go through the hazard light switch. Those two signals join up further "downstream", before they get to the lights.

I agree with the Doc, the turn signal switch is the primary suspect.

Hello,
I am having a related but different problem with a new turn signal switch. The switch is very stiff when moving from the neutral to left or right position. It doesn't want to un-cancel in either direction. The steering wheel tang that actuates the turn signal cancelling is installed correctly, and is coming in contact with the turn signal switch. I would really like to have the turn signals working properly. Dave, do you have any suggestions?
Thanks, Phil

Sounds like an issue with the mechanical parts of the switch. See how much you can take apart (carefully!!!) and if there is something rubbing too much or in the wrong location.

I haven't fixed a switch myself, so I don't know what it should look like.

Take lots of pictures so you can get back to where you started.

you did not install it correctly, it is easy to jamb down into the column and then it is stiff and can short out
