Redrilling all 4 corners for 5 lug

Ok...

I know the best way to do this is by upgrading to the 911 front end parts per the tech article, but I think at the moment this way will get me back on the road while I start gathering the parts to do it right.

I've got a line on some nice fuch 5-lugs to replace my cracked 4-lugs. To do this, I would obviously have to do the 5 lug conversion.

I'd like to know about having all 4 corners redrilled and studded.

Shops in the LA area, advice, the works.

Obviously it's temporary for a year or so while I work on getting the parts together to actually do it right.

Let me know guys.

Hey Mike, I hear that Rimco will do the drilling for you. I am not 100% sure on that as I have not had it done yet. I need to get mine drilled on the Chalon to install the Fuchs on it. With any luck I will be driving it before too much longer.

Too bad Mueller is on his "working vacation". He did the job on a previous 914. Drilled and studded all the way around. It does work... Best to have someone with a jig or better yet a mill doing the job. And you have to re-do the fronts every time you change brake rotors--but that isn't a concern if you're only keeping it for a year.

Yeah, I want to do it right - but right now I have more pressing financial engagements, but I need the car on the road as it is my primary form of transportation. So, I can do this - get it on the road - and start collecting parts for the kickin brakes and such.

GPR sells everything too. for the fronts depending on year you also have to take some material off where ithe center cap goes on. the rear is pretty straight forward for the rotor. for the rear hubs i exchanged for 5 lug redrills because it is a little more complicated then drilling. I think i paid about 60 bucks per rear hub. alloy lugs and studs were about $6 each. Also replace the rear bearings. GPR has a kit to do everything for about $600. I did some of the work myself (rotors) and replaced all bushings and bearings. I ended up spending about $400. I was able to get some new parts cheap which kept the cost down. I put on fuchs 5 bolts which cost about $300. I spent many hours refurbing the wheels sand and sand and sand and polish and polish and mask and mask and paint. took about 12 hrs a wheel. Everyone thought i was crazy but kept me busy through the winter. once completed looked great and everyone wanted me to do theirs. No way only once. yoko avs es 100 completed the job. sticky and handle great. If I was to redo I would buy used 911 stuff for the front. Either way you do it its not exactly a cheap job.

IIRC RIMCO was contacted a few years ago and they said no way, they don't do it. I contacted FAT performance, the cost was way past ridiculous.

I did it myself (for a friend's car, not mine).
It was very easy to do, but I had a very large vertical mill and an indexing table at my disposal. (I was in charge of a machine shop at the time, it's good to be king). The job took about two hours. Milling the spot faces on the back took the most time.

RIMCO doesn't do it. FAT does (just called both). Fat's not cheap.

Out the door, front is $285.90, rear's $280 with new 914-6 rotors.

I've still got some places to call.

Well, thats under $600.00 and you get new rotors out of it. I would say thats not too bad. I think AA is selling a setup on Ebay right now for like $600 +. I have also seen people selling the complete 911 parts for around that much though too on Ebay. Good luck Mike.

Hey Mike, I bought a set of rear drilled stub axles from Ebay and am not going to use them. You can have them for what I aid for them if you want. Let me know. Here is the link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2416293982

Geeeeez, at those prices I should go into production. I figure Icould undercut them a little, say $100 per corner, exchange?

Thanks

No, I was pretty much joking. I could do it easily for less than $100 a corner, but I'm afraid the big bad lawyer types would cause me to loose sleep due to liability reasons. I'd have to try and get liability insurance and that would pretty much kill the price.
It's a shame that we have to live in fear of litigation, isn't it?

Yeah Mike, this will give you the 5 lug setup for the rear, you would just need the rotors from a 914-6 or get yours redrilled.

It's a shame that we have to live in fear of litigation, isn't it?

To whom it may concern,

On this day, a few moments ago, my client was offered five bolt conversions for 914 Porsches (no limits quoted) for $100 less per corner than other places.

Moments later, my client was in tears to find out it was someone playing a cruel trick.

This isn't the first time. sammyg2, AKA: Sammy the Snake; AKA Simple Sammy; AKA Sammy the Sadist.... Sams-son... Walnut Willie.. Buford T. Sammy, Samuel Gee Two III, and the list goes on.. has offered bargain prices on Porsche repair/parts, and then withdrawn the ADs, only to taunt, and confuse.

We demand satisfaction, I am an attorney, you will be hearing from my atty., his atty., and his atty.'s assistant, who is a consultant, and you know what that means.

Oh yeah, it's on.

Sincerely,

Bertram B. Bloodthirst, Esq.

PS: I am looking for the lil rubber thingys that go between 12-19 on the sheet metal drawings from pet, I think the third page.. let me know if you can get me a deal.
