Liquid Wrench?

Is this stuff still available? Is there a better product for loosening seized fasteners? Also, does anyone know where I could get a "breaker bar" extension that would fit the handle of my Craftsmen 1/2 drive ratchet?

Thanks,
Alfred

Liquid Wrench is still available at many auto parts stores. Alternately, look for PB Blaster or Aero Kroyl. They are supposed to be better penetrating oils.

I often use large box-end wrenches as extensions to my ratchet handle. If not, get yerself to wherever you buy pipe and get a three-foot length of galvanized pipe about 1/2" ID. Or however big it needs to be to slip easily over the handle.

That and a BFH should work quite well...

I use the jack handle as a lever a lot too. But I also bought a set of two breaker bars from Harbor Freight for about 12 bucks.

Thanks Jeff. Those Harbor Freight bars were exactly what I was looking for.

I use my jack handle as a breaker bar too.

Careful though, I've easily broken bolts with it.

I found an old can of AeroKroil when I was working on my old '70 914. That's the best stuff I ever used. A little spray, wait a few minutes, and the exhaust and sheetmetal fasteners just came out as if they had *not* been in place for over 20 years.

If you can find it, get a can...great stuff!

if possible, apply heat to the nut. the expansion and contraction breaks the corrosion hold. heat will also enable the wicking action of the penetrant. Being willing to walk away for a few minutes to allow the heat and oil to work also helps.
