I hate to keep harping on this cupholder thing but I was at WalMart the other day and they have "The Wedge" cupholders
for $1.79. It's this big black wedge shaped thing that slips between your seat and center console on holds two cups and
either your phone, a GPS or some food thing in a third compartment and just slips back out for removal. It's a beautiful thing: No mods, no bouncing around, it's black and it's cheap.

No really, the best thing you can get at Walmart for the teener is the pink Barbie harness pads for the five points. Keeps the guys out of the car. Just ask Don N.

I bought one of thase cup holders at Walmart. They are great! It's like whoever designed it owns a 914.

Makes me think of that pimped out 1976 on Ebay a while ago - with the fur lined dash & pink and red interior, etc. The "Elvis" edition.

I actually saw some rice driver and his girlfriend with "Winne the Pooh" ones installed in the car.

Honestly, the best part of a 914 is NO CUP HOLDER. The car was designed to be driven and not to have drinks spilled inside it.

The car corners like a go-kart and that drink is going to get launched in some way

It takes two hands ... "Oh I sucked at that Auto-X because I spilled my Latte..."

Best Wal-Mart purchase... Great price on Castrol Purple cleaner and rubber gloves to use with it. Cleans through grease almost as well as canned brake cleaner and it is biodegradable too. Soak parts overnight and they clean right up... Turns Aluminum BLACK is left on for too long and then you'll need to wire wheel your stuff for that brushed aluminum look (great for cleaning that old distributor, or motor, or oil gunked thermostat, or...

Hey Redbeered, people actually drive these on the road. Open cars are HOT in summer sun with traffic, and people need coffee on morning commutes. This is s solution that reqires no mods to the interior, accomodates the driver, and leaves the car unmolested. ...and its CHEAP! Most of the time, I don't need this thing in my car. That's precisely why I like it, it just comes right out and stores in the trunk or behind a seat, or in the garage. And yeah, I guess it doesn't apply to
cars with a fuel cell and meatballs on the doors. Duh!

I used the Walmart Air Deflector Upgrade kit on my '73. It can be found in the Lawn & Garden section, disguised as a ten foot roll of lawn edging. I just cut to length and split the tube section open to use as the mounting flange.

My engine stays a lot cooler.

I wish I could oblige your request for pics, but I don't have a camera that doesn't use film. I'm not sure I could post pics anyway; I'm dumber than a bag of hammers when it concerns computer stuff.

Pics aren't really needed anyway. Next time you see a roll of that black plastic edging stuff, look at the end of the roll with this application in mind...you'll see how. I attached with four short sheet metal screws onto the pan as close as I could get to the bulkhead. I would recommend using screws with a flat (pan) head, or those types that have an integrated washer. The plastic wants to squeeze out when it's clamped between a small screw head and the flat surface.

The stuff is cheap, has the right shape, and does the job.
There is a segue somewhere in there about how I like my coffee, but I can't figure it out. Anyone? Or should this be in the "What I like best about my 914" thread?

If i get it right, the lawn edging is to fabricate those air deflectors under the car just at the floor/firewall joint.

I did notice that the Boxsters had them also. But the lawn edging sure is a cheap alternative!

Yep, I think two legged cup holders are the best, but they cost a whole lot more in the long run and eventually begin to make some awful noises.

Maybe $1.79 is a pretty good deal after all.
