Electrical gremlins-lighting
I have reinstalled all of the lights since the car has returned from painting and believe I have connected correctly. Have checked multiple sources for reconnecting and all looks good
When I pull out the light switch for the parking lights, everything lights up as it should except the brake light on the left side is brighter than the rest. When I then turn the key to the first position, all of the lights on the left side (parking light, side marker, headlight, and brake light in the taillight) all get super bright. Its like these lights are getting additional power somehow. This only occurs on the left side of the car. The parking light lamp gets so hot you can't touch it. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I have checked the fuses and cleaned the connection points on the fuse panel. Rechecked all of the wire connections to the lights. Cleaned and tightened all grounds. Checked all of the relays on the fuse panel with known good ones. Since doing this I have now lost the fog lights! Not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions and help is appreciated. Thx. Ed |

You probably have power and ground swapped somewhere. It is possible the problem is on the right side, but the symptoms are on the left.
Check your wiring diagrams, and check Jeff Bowlsby's 914 Tech Notebook page for diagrams of how the turn signals and brake lights and such hook up: https://bowlsby.net/914/Classic/TechNotebook.htm --DD

Electrical gremlins - lighting
Dave, thx for the reply.
Today I sanded and cleaned corrosion from all of the lamps and their sockets. Spread the relay plugs a little farther apart. Cleaned them and their sockets where they plug in. Replaced some questionable fuses and some older lamps. Not sure which of these did the trick, but I now once again have lights at all the same intensity and the fog lights also lit up. I do not like electrical problems! |
