Getting Too Much Oil Cooling…
My 914 was set up previously by a past owner for tracking. This set up included a larger external oil pump. Also a small radiator above the accessory larger oil sump and two radiators above the transmission and under the trunk. I just installed a new sender, gauge and wiring and on a 15 mile drive at 65mph and 85F outside temperature only get a 140F reading on the gauge. I cannot imagine what the oil temperature will be this Winter. Since I do not plan to track does it sound stupid to cover one of the larger radiators and see if I can raise the oil temperature somewhat?

For starters that’s an easier option, I’d be removing some of the bulk if you’re not going to track it. How about installing a thermostat?

I am not familiar with thermostats for a oil system. Any recommendations for companies that sell them?

The typical thermostat gets placed in line with both the inlet and outlet lines of the cooler.
When the oil is cold, the thermostat sends the oil from the inlet line straight to the outlet line, bypassing the cooler. When the oil is hot, it opens up and sends oil from the inlet line to the cooler, and then out again through the outlet line. Here's one example: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/prm-1071 --DD
