Can a G50 be flied for a 914?
Can a G50 trans from a 3.2 or 3.6 have the ring flipped to run in a 914?
Any idea how much to have it done or what is required, machining? |

Hey I am not sure but the place to also post would be the 914 world board. I know a 915 works with some massaging, Btw I am out in Rocklin, there are a couple of good get togethers on a regular basis if you are interested.

You can't flip the ring and pinion in the g50. You have to flip the whole gearbox. We do it regularly for the kit car guys. It's not terribly difficult.
You can fit a G50 into a 914 chassis but it's a custom install. It's not really a bolt in affair. Patrick Motorsports could help you with it if you are serious about the project.

IIRC, you can flip the R&P in a 915 box relatively easily.
For the 930 box, you have to machine clearance for some of the parts (the ring gear?). For the G-50, you flip the whole box as Matt said. You might need to find a short bellhousing G-50, but I am not sure about that. In most of these that I have seen, the rear trunk floor is cut out to make room for the transmission. Note that the 901-based boxes are about 75 lbs; the 915 boxes are about 125 lbs, and the G-50 boxes are about 175 lbs. Not sure about the 930 boxes, but I would assume them to be somewhat more than a 915. Mounting, shift linkage, and clutch linkage issues need to be worked out for any of those. The 915 boxes have the really trick but somewhat pricey Wevo parts available for that; the others require more fabrication. --DD

You guys are great, thanks?
I wonder how the cost of flipping a G50 box and a cable shifter would compare to sourcing a 915 plus conversion clutch, and Weivo 916 style conversion might be? I guess one should probably add a LSD to the equation. |

The cost of flipping the G50 and a cable shifter will run you around $1500. The WEVO 916 conversion kit will cost you around $2000. But as was mentioned, there's more fab work to get the G50 to fit and hung. Cost of that depends a lot on how DIY you are on sheetmetal and welding type work. All of this is exclusive of any other rebuilding the box requires or any special ratio gears you might consider installing at the same time.
If you went with one of our LSD's, one for the G50 costs about $400 more than the 915 version.
