no idea if the performance would vary with carbs. but i've got the stock FI in my 2.0.. swapped in the xr-3000 model a while back after the pertronix died on me (i personally would warn against pertronix, in case you were thinking about it).. i get strong spark, starts first, time everytime, cold or hot.. been pretty satisfied..

I use the FireBall XR-3000 with my '76 2.0, It has Dellordo Carbs, was easy to set up and works flawlessly. The car will set for weeks and start the first crank. Best improvement on the engine to date.

The Allison/Crane Cam optical ignition simply sits where the points go. Therefore it will work the same nomatter if you have FI or carbs.
I would suggest getting the 12v bug setup from JC Whitney @ ~$80. This is THE SAME kit you'll get anywhere else and works great, I'm running it now. Ian |

If I'm correct, the ballast resistor is incorporated into the stock coil. Also the Bosch "super blue" coil.
Others that specifically do not have a ballast resistor may require one to be added. Not sure on the specifics of this, unfortunately. --DD |

Yeah Dave's right, Bosch includes balast resistors in their coils. If you upgrade to another brand coil you must either:
1. make sure the coil includes a balast resistor 2. use an external balast resistor. Ian BTW I use a 60Kvolt coil with external balast resistor. Works great! |
