My 1973 914 has the kind of gas pedal that is attached to the floor, but there is a problem, there is rust under where it attaches and i have to weld a plate over that area in order to not have to look at the road, is there any way to install a new gas pedal where it isnt attached to the floor, that would make everything a ot easier, or are there any suggestions on how to patch that hole and install the old gas pedal. If you want i will send you pictures that should assist you in assisting me!!!
Please help |

I'd recommend that you remove the accel pedal and then the whole pedal cluster and clean the area well to see how much rust is there. You could make a replacement panel and then cut the rusted section out and weld in the new section with a mig welder. Make sure you cut past the rust edges. If you are proficient then the hardest part is laying on your tummy to do all of this. If not proficient then a body shop would charge a big chunk of $$$ to do something like that. Make sure you protect the fuel lines in the tunnel when cutting and welding. Good luck

You can also buy a partial floor pan (either front half or left half, I forget which way they're split) and use the appropriate section. It should have the correct contours for strength and the mounting holes.
No easy way to put a "pendant" (hanging) gas pedal in a 914. --DD
