914 Air Conditioning

Now, before anybody criticizes me for wanting air conditioning - it's 106 today & it might rain too.

That said, When I paid a visit to my local wrecking yard, I noticed several VW buses with air conditioning. Would I be able to steal most of the mechanical pieces from a bus. Eventually, I will acquire the interior parts from a 914 & everything will hook up beautifully.

Does that sound like it would work?........................Vern

no. you need the dreaded crankshaft pulley, the compressor mount, the under dash unit, the "hack the floor of the front trunk" unit then drill holes all through the body to route the holes, cut the engine sheet metal and the engine tray to fit the compressor. oh, and if you want the complete system, i have one complete but needs new hoses.

Tidybuoy,

I have done what your requesting to my 74 Ravenna 2.0 914 and am very satisfied with the results. I did mix & match from the two available systems DPD & VPC. Not sure about Bus parts though. Do a search on my alias and this subject & you should come up with quite a bit of data. I even posted a wiring diagram I did. Let me know if you have further questions.

Good luck,
