engine heat management flaps
Just wondering is i it OK to NOT have the engine heat management flaps connected to the
thermostat. When the spring loaded flaps are connected to the thermostat they will open once the car warms up to allow air to flow over the oil cooler. I was wondering if in the summer is it better just to have the flaps open all of the time. my bud want to know ... thanks

It is best to have the thermostat hooked up and working. It is second-best to have the spring keep the flaps in full-open mode all the time. It is worst to have the flaps completely removed.
(Well, actually, it is worst to have the flaps accidentally wired closed all the time!!) --DD

During the summer or winter, the flaps will open completly. Unless it is really cold...Key to the aircooled thermostat is the rapid heating of the engine, expansion, oil viscosity...reduces wear and increase engine longevity.
