Running oil lines to cooler
Has anyone ever tried running front oil cooler lines under
the chassis along the center tunnel recessed area. I do not want to try to run them thru the heater duct. Let me know |

From what I hear, the Renegade Hybrid V8 conversion runs the water lines there, so it's possible. You can easily run them behind the rocker panels as well.

Don't run metal lines under the car. If you hit something, they will crush flat and that will be it. Rubber lines will "give" and pop back out again. They're a bit more fragile, and I'm not sure about running oil in them though...

Dave, and hars, the Aeroquip push on lines are rated for oil at something like 400 degress and some pretty big pressure. You can check Summilt or a number of other sources for the actual figures. I have them as fuel lines, I did use the braided lines for my cooler (in the heater duct as well). I think if you run the lines under the car, you are always gonna be worrying about scraping them. You probably never will, I mean how many scars do you really have on the floorpan from getting high centered on something? Still, for peace of mind, and not having to get out and look under the car to see if everything is OK everytime you "think" you rubbed something, I would run them somewhere else. Or, maybe put a metal angle iron guard under there and run the lines either side of it. Does the Renegade system have any protection?

I am running stainless braided (12) hose. I was planning
on coming up with some kind of shield for protection. The car just went through a 3 year resto and I do not want to start cutting holes at the fenderwell or inside the car. That is why I would like to run them underneath. |

Is it necessary to run a check valve on the cooler supply side (close to the sandwich adapter) to prevent oil from returning to the engine when power is off?

Here is how I did mine http://photos.yahoo.com/evill914 (look at Oil Cooler album)
As for drain back, it's not really an issue. A bit might drain back but there is not enough pressure to push the oil through the oil galleys or past the pumps gears. Ed

I like ed's route but I will try down the center.
I dug up some old pictures of a Renegade conversion and he had his rubber water lines up in the recesses and they seemed to fit fine.I also noticed the deflectors sit at least 2 to 3 inches below the frame and I have never scraped them. Thanks for all the input.I will post pictures when I have it installed |
