Auto Shipping Recommendations
I'm just hunting around BBS by BBS to see if anyone has a line on a shipper for a non-funning 911 I bought in Kentucky. It needs to come to CA sometime in the next 6 weeks.
Sorry if you've seen this post before. |

had excellent luck shipping a Benz S-Class from LA to NY with a place in Hollywood called Jordache Trucking. Maybe you can catch them coming the other way. Sorry, lost the phone number.

No website, not found in Yellow Page search. Pretty scary. Thanks anyway.

Intercity Lines Inc. brought a non running 914 along with a box/pallet containing engine and tranny pieces from Tennesse to Oregon, $1700. They seem to be more willing to carry "rollers" than most, but they are one of the most expensive. All enclosed. They are now bringing me a running 912, Pennsylvania to Oregon, $1650.

This is going back to Sept 2001; I'll see what I can find, I may have the wrong city, might have been Burbank. It was a family business, the truck was first-rate fully enclosed, and I got the Benz to upstate NY for under a grand. Most folks add another $100 or so for a non-op.

Whatever you do, go with a company that actually owns their own trucks. Most shipping outfits are simply brokers that contract with trucking companies or individual drivers. That's one more layer of BS in between you and the people that are doing the real work; one more layer of people who will try to blame someone else when something goes wrong.
I've heard too many horror stories about that kind of deal. And none at all (so far) about Inter City.--DD

I used Federal Express's car shipping company [Passport Transport] to pick up a 914-6 for me in Ohio and deliver it to Miami. The website is www.passporttransport.com.
They were excellent - their truck was beautifull and the price was similar to what I was quoted by everyone else. I have also used Horseless Carriage, but I did not have a good experience with them. Cost for most of the closed transports seemed to run about $1 per mile.

I used Intercity Van Lines to ship three cars from Va to SDiego (within the last 1-1/2 months), and couldn't be happier with their service. Used other shippers in the past, and none could match these guys. As stated above, they're not the cheapest, but they (seemingly, in my experience) are the best.
