vacuum advance/retard and 2.0 dizzy

So you know, I have a 72 with a 1.7 engine with DJet.

a series of events led me to Brad's page, and lo and behold I've had a distributor from a 75-76 2.0l installed for some time now.

So I start studying the chart in the tech articles about the different advance curves, vacuum and mechanical, and they look very similar, a couple of degrees difference is all. I know my 76 2.0 doesn't require a 2nd vacuum hose to the distributor like the 1.7, but if I reuse the 2.0 distributor, should I hook up the 2nd hose or not? The retard shows a 10deg range, so it becomes a significant amount.

If not, should i just plug it at the throttle body?

I know I can put in the correct distributor, but i'm just wondering where the difference comes in, and how the 2 vacuum signals complement, or counteract, each other.

The difference comes in with the vacuum adv providing some adv at earlier rpms (between 1500-2200). This gives the engine a little bit more zip off idle. 73 2.0l cars use the vacuum adv and have the extra port on the throttle body.
On the 76 2.0L car hook it up but you will have to install a vacuum port for it on the Throttle body. It a small flat boss that is located above the throttle plate.
Leave the retard hooked up as that helps with the idle.

The 2.0 distributor should work OK. The vacuum advance is the one that many 74+ cars are missing. But the vacuum dashpot on the distributor still has an advance fitting. Go ahead and use it, it should help the way the car runs a bit.
